Tomorrow I go to the Salvation Army Center between 9 and 9:30 am to commence my volunteer work with them. I'm going to be shown how to answer the phone for them when people call. It sounds like an easy job but I won't know until I try. Certainly doesn't hurt to try naturally.

I'm glad I decided to take Major Colin up on his offer to apply for volunteer work. It'll give me something positive to occupy myself with. And I've also started looking back over all my notes from when he led me through the Positive Lifestyle Program. I've read over the sessions first on Depression then on Anger so far, and soon I want to look back on Self-Esteem next.

And as for my Church life I won't say I will or won't one day join the Salvation Army, but I love attending an occasional service at their Center on Sunday mornings.

I love my Catholic Church naturally and I'm committed to my role as Secretary for my Parish St.Vincent de Paul Conference. But if or when I ever do change it will be because I honestly feel God calling me to serve Him specifically as a preacher for Salvation Army.

Anyway I will let you all know how my work fares.

Well, I think it'd be better to help out Major Colin than Private Ryan anyway.:stick_out_tongue:

But on a serious note, I do hope all goes well for you Marty!

Yes, congradulations! And it sounds like you'll have a great time doing it too! Hey, it may even turn in to a great learning experience!
 Maybe I should look in to the Salvation where I live...

It went very well indeed.
It's really a simple job. When the main phone rings I just answer and say "Good morning. Salvation Army. Can I help you?" Then if they want to talk to somebody they showed me how to transfer the calls through to so and so. If he or she is out I had pens and sheets of paper to write a message and there are hooks to hang them on outside the people's offices. And sometimes I also had to help people coming in through the front door. It was all okay. I found it very relaxing and satisfying. Major Colin said I could go home after 12 noon since it usually quietens down in the afternoon and they can handle not having someone at the main desk then.

I recommend you do consider looking into volunteer work with the Salvos Kate. You'll enjoy it I'm sure. I'll be going regularly each Tuesday morning now.

You know, it's funny you should say it was relaxing. It sounds just like a receptionist type job I did one summer at a community center, and even at the busiest times, I found it most relaxing and tranquel. And it is rewarding to know you're actually helping people, and you're being there makes a difference.

C'est tres magnifique...oui, bien fait, heralde.

It sounds like you're doing well, Marty, and the SA does sound like a worthy organization to volunteer with.

I know the feeling, Kate. These days, I find that if I've got nothing to do, I find myself pacing around and feeling really, really restless. However, I've got two freelancing gigs plus a volunteer job with the local literacy council, so that should help.
