It's not often that I remember skits I saw exactly once. But here's one that somehow managed to stand out in my mind:
Susan is sitting on the 123 stoop with a hardback book. She says:
"I like reading books."
Camera cuts to Gordon sitting in a recliner chair with a newspaper.
"I like reading the paper."
(This chair might have been in his living room. They showed us the inside of the 123 tenement a lot more often in the early seasons. Later years tended towards having the adult characters talking to someone through an open window. I even once saw Susan talking through a side window to Big Bird at his nest.)
Cut to a little girl reading a comic book, probably Archie series.
"I like reading comics"
(she might have been sitting at Mr. Hooper's counter, but don't quote me on that.)
Cut to a little boy with a hardcover kids' book open.
"I like reading picture books"
Does anyone else remember this one? It had to have been 1974 at the latest. If so, was there a fifth person, like a teen or young adult who enjoyed reading magazines?
