Right, so, like, here in Kentucky there's the longest cave system in the world, "Mammoth Cave".

Okay, so I've been there several times, but always on walkin' tours. Well, I'm startin' muh work vacation 'is week, and on Saturday I'm gonna go on the "Wild Cave" tour---the actual hard-core stuff!

Check it out:

Emphasis on:
  • Save caving techniques
  • environmental concerns
  • cave exploration (past and present)
  • team building --- [how fragglish, heehee!]

Landmarks seen:
  • Cleaveland Avenue
  • Split Rock
  • Snowball Room (food available)
  • Boone Avenue
  • various areas off developed tour trails
  • Travertine Tour route

Physical Challenges:
  • Free-climbing cave walls
  • lengthy crawls through areas as tight as 9 inches high
  • walking in a crouced position
  • hand and knee crawls over jagged rocks and dirt
  • crawling through we areas
  • twisting into and out of tight crawlway openings

And you HAVE to wear over-the-ankle lace-up boots with aggressive tread, can't have chest or hip measurements over 42 inches, and they provide helmets, lights, and kneepads.

Hard-core cavin', just like the fraggles---I love it! :excited:

I'm still wonderin' if this means we'll go back in time, back to a time when fraggles were bald, never laughed, and didn't have leaders.

All hail Blundig! :stick_out_tongue:

This really does sound AWESOME, Byron. I've been to a couple caves: Penn's Cave, which was nice but was just a boat tour, and some caves in Virginia I forget the name of. ______ Caverns, I believe. That was really neat, and they had a lot of cool rock formations. I hope you have a great Fragglish time! :excited:

I've been on several cave tours w/the fam, snd I've always wanted to go spleunking and exploring the caves, but it's not exactly something everybody else, ('cept for Dad an' my lil' bro James), has ever exactly been all that excited about!!!!

Okay, that was supposed to say walking in a "crouched" position, and crawling through "wet" areas.

And yeah, lol, I'd LOVE to bring fraggles home wif me, iffin' I see any! :zany: I'll keep a lookout for strange passages which might possibly look magical...

I went and bought me some heavy-tractioned "rough-terrain" boots tonight. And a wilderness fanny pack (it's required for your bottled "sweet water"), and thick wool socks.

If Dad has some work gloves I can borrow, I'm all set.

"Give me a fraggle vest 'n call me Gobo!"

That's pretty cool!

Next time you go to Mammoth Cave, check to see if you see the name "Houchins" or "Rhea" because my family founded it back in the 1800's (if I remember some of my ancestry hist'ry right). I just don't remember if it was Granny Ethel's (Houchins) family or Papa Roy's (Rhea).

But I think Houchins.

Have fun, and look out for bat poop. Yuck.

PS
Know what would be cool? Take a postcard and write it out starting with "Dear Nephew Gobo..." and lose it in the cave somewhere. Make it look old and weathered before you go and maybe someone will find it on another trip down into the caves and think..."Oh, WOW! There really ARE Fraggles!!" :smirk: :excited:

Yeah Erin, your mom's right---it's sooooo much fun, and very cool!

Oh yeah, and Mammoth Cave is reportedly one of the most haunted places in the country with over 150 ghost sightings, and that's "Part II" o' muh vacation---travelin' to different places 'round the state that are legendary for bein' haunted (good ol' folklore, odd experiences, 'n all 'dat), and I rully hope to get to some cool places with strange tales (not tails)!

:zany:
