how involved in muppet babies were Henson, Oz, etc. Were they involved in the creative process at all or did they just allow the rights to the characters to be used?

Yes, Jim henson created the Muppet Babies for a dream sequence in Muppets Take Manhatten. He also modified it for television, but I think from there, Marvel had there Team to continue it.

This is nothing more but pure speculation on my part, but i think Henson would have been involved a lot in the preproduction, but after that (actually probably slighly before so there would be a more seamless passing of the guard), i sense that Michael Frith was more of the Henson spokesperson on the whole project.
