How do cable controls work exactly?

Can somebody please tell/teach me the ins and outs of cable controls specifically? I see 'cable-controlled' everywhere and I see pictures and a few rare diagrams every now and then, but nothing really hearty or instructive. Please help me out!

I got a couple of pictures for you and a made up drawing for you. This is how i made it work for me. also i just want to note this process is a pain in the butt i have made several puppet that did not blink that i like a whole lot more. not to mention it adds to the cost of the puppet by double. any way here you go!

hope this helps.

Go by your local bike shop and ask for a brake assembly, if they go "What?" show them on a bike what you want they should have it in stock. play with it and you should get a fill for what it does.
