Has anybody noticed how in many sketches from season two, Herry Monster made unexpected appearances at the end, often as a surprise appearance? In many of them the main characters thought he was someone to be afraid of, when he had other intentions.

I'll list the various season two sketches that end with Herry Monster, but obviously this will cause some spoilers.

  • At the end of the "First and Last" song, the boy who's first to get to the present gets a surprise when Herry pops out and kisses him. And isn't it odd how sesamestreet.org titles it "Herry Sings: First & Last"? Herry doesn't sing it, he just makes a quick cameo.
  • There's the sketch where Ernie finds a ball, and claims it... Only for Herry to show up and claim it to be his.
  • Of course there's the sketch where Grover sneaks into Ernie's apartment, intending to surprise Ernie... Only to be surprised when he finds Herry wearing a shirt liek Ernie's, and a wig that matches Ernie's hair.
  • Herry appears at the end of Little Bird's imagination game.
  • There's Mumford's surprise trick, where he keeps making a woman disappear and reappear... And then Mumford gets surprised when he accidently brings in Herry.
  • There's the sketch where Farely hears a knock at the door, and talks about what you can do with your mind, eventually imagining that the person at the door is a monster... And then being right when Herry busts open the door.
  • I don't know whether this should count or not, but there's also the sketch where Bert and Ernie compete for the big TV chair... And once they learn they can both fit in it together, Herry shows up.

I never saw Herry in season 2, but I just want to say he's always been one of my favorites!

Well, with a new puppet comes getting mileage out of it. Just take a look at when the elephant first came out and how many things he was in.

I can't think of too many early skits where Cookie Monster and Beautiful Day Monster appear as "punchlines"... I know Beautiful Day Monster was a "punchline" character at the end of the Ernie and Bert "cake" sketch, and was at the end of the Kermit "clues" sketch, though I'm unsure of whether these shoudl count, and Cookie Monster served as a "punchline" character in a few seaosn 2 skits, like the one where Bert accused Ernie of taking his cookies, and the one where Little Bird demosntrates "next to", But then Fred was used as the punchline for all of his known appearances (the "in the box" skethc and Ernie's "rock hunting" sketch). And there was the "punchline cameo" by Big V. in the "Kermit's radio" sketch.
