Yeah in "To be or not to be" I especially enjoyed her and husband Mel Brooks doing the opening song "Sweet Georgia Brown" in Polish. Enjoyed the whole movie too. It's probably my fave by Mel Brooks. Either that or the very funny "Blazing Saddles" (LOVE the opening theme song in that movie too!).
In about 1984 I rented an hour long VHS tape of a standup comedic performance by Mel Brooks called, "An audience with Mel Brooks". Anne was in the audience and he teased her at one point when someone in the audience asked, "Is it true you are married to the most beautiful woman in the world?" He replied, "No, I'm married to Anne Bancroft." And the highlight came near the end. He told Anne to come up on stage with him and do the "Sweet Georgia Brown" song in Polish with him that they had done in the movie. She didn't want to come up. She was afraid she didn't have all the words still fresh in her memory. Mel kept assuring her she would remember. And she did just fine indeed!
R.I.P. Anne Bancroft
