I have a problem i would like to resolve that has been a long standing item of interest to my family.
I live in New Zealand and we recieved many programs of Sesame st in the late 70's and for some years after.
Now to my little problem!....
Back in 1969 and 1970 my father was visiting USA and was based in florida at the military base of Cecil Feild. He was on Military business with the NewZealand Airforce and a team from our country who were there to purchase and train on brand new McDonald Douglas A4 Skyhawk fighter aircraft! (Im not kidding this does relate to sesame st!)
He was based in the US for some months and got to be quite freindly with alot of US naval aircraft engineers and often visited them at there homes etc and shared quite alot of there family life.
Whilst he was stationed there somehow im not sure, he and one or two of the New Zealand Airforce team were invited to apear on an episode of Sesame St and talk to the people on the show about life in New Zealand and explain why they were visiting the US.
As far as i know my father never saw the show screen on TV whilst he was there and since the series never screened in New Zealand until many years later our family has never seen the footage of his apearance on Sesame st.
I was 6 years old at the time and im now 43 and my father is in his 70's and my young children would love to see this episode with there Grandfather on Sesame St!
So... you can see now where this is heading!
I dont know if anyone can help me at all, but i have to start somewhere to see if i can locate a copy of the particular episode so that we can have a copy for our family to keep as a peice of history.
If anyone knows where or how i might be able to locate this footage i would be most appretiative. Sorry i cant be more specific with the exact date or time this episode screened.

Regards

You could write a letter to the Research section of The Museum of TV and Radio, they have people who research the public's questions.

I would try writing to Sesame Workshop itself. I've heard that they actually do produce little "mix tape" DVDs of various segments for people who request them (at $5 a skit, so it ain't super-cheap), so there might be some archivist there who can help you out. You never know.

(By the way, if I'm all wet about the DVD thing, someone please straighten me out. I'm just going by what I heard)

You know, I do recall another poster who said that he was able to get some clips that way from Sesame Workshop (I think it was the "I-beam" film, plus a few others, right?). I forget the price he paid, but he said he did get a handful of skits. Interesting . . . it's theoretically possible to make a list of my "10 most wanted" clips & then save $50 so I can order them. That's a hefty fee for what will probably be less than a half-hour of footage. . .but it IS my ten most wanted! Something to think about.

If this service is available, I wish Sesame Workshop would promote it more. Perhaps it's something that is only done on an individual basis, or something that they're not ready to do "full-time". Or maybe they don't feel it's "cheap" enough yet to promote it.

So if anyone else has done this and succeeded, please let us know what you did & how we should do it!
