I actually salvaged the plastic for my Kermit's mouth piece from the packaging of an action figure I bought. The arm rods took a little more effort. I headed down to my local hardware store and bought some thin metal rods. They were strong enough to avoid damage, but malleable enough that I could bend the ends with a little help from my desk top, so they sit inside the hands of the puppet quite well.
