Anyone ever wonder just WHAT sort of rat species Philo and Gunge are meant to be? Whatever they are, their kind either come from swamps or stay close to Gorgs so they can steal spare food, right?
I never even though of them as rats, really. Sure they're rat-like in appearance, but they'll always just be Philo and Gunge to me, nothing more, nothing less.
One thought that's been with me lately, perhaps their species is the decendants of that Gunge-like race we see inhabiting the Dinosaurs' world, that some of them slipped through a wormhole in the Rock's world just before the dinosaurs' world ended and kept the species going over whatever time frame exists between that show and this one.
I agree with GR. They don't even seem to know where they come from! I believe that they are the only two of there species, and that they are closely connected to the Trash Heap. I never saw the episode, but I believe in Home Is Where the Trash Is, it is made somewhat clear that they need each other to survive, and of course, the premise of that episode was that the boys were trying to find there true place.
