Green Screen Test

Hey all,

I recently got a new video camera for dotBoom, and I have been doing tests with it, checking on quality generally, and how it works with green screens specifically. It looks like it will do a good job. You can see my latest test, if you're interested, here:

There are still some visual things to take care of, but I think they're mostly involving my lighting and the way I'm keying out the colours, rather than the quality of the camera.

The camera is the Sony HDR-HC3. It's very nice.

Hey thats a great little test !
I've done a ton of green screen stuff
You must use this plugin keylight 1.0 It works with after effects and Is the best for keying one click and your done it will loose that fuzz you have and will give you a perfect key around the puppets hair!
btw I love the lil puppet

Nice camera! You seem to get a nice resolution image out of it. What compositing software are you using? I would try creating a garbage matte to get rid of the major buzzing areas above the set.

I hope you dont mind by I took some of your footage and used the keylight filter on it you will beable to see with the plugin what a great job it does with hair and such.
this is really lo res flash video but you get the point I will remove it in about 3 hours so u can get a look at it.
this was done all in one click

I tried out a demo of keylight a little while ago (I think it was Nate who recommended it before) and I was really impressed with the results.

Something that will also help make compositing easier is to brush down the fur on the top of the puppet heads and arms, sometimes using a tiny bit of water to help it stay in place. That way there's less fuzzy stuff and keying becomes that much easier.

Gabe, do a search of the forum for green and/or blue screen. The subject has come up a few times before and some really helpful links were posted in those threads.

Super image quality. Nice to have a camera like that.

I'm pretty happy with the camera, it's definitely nice to have.

I'm using Premiere Pro right now. That keylight looks pretty sweet, though. I'm just using the Color and Chroma key filters in Premiere, messing around, trying to get something that looks good.

And as far as the resolution goes, you should see it uncompressed. Looks WAY, WAY better. (Still looks pretty good compressed, of course, but the AVIs are amazing).

Is Keylight expensive?

Garbage matt is a region or shape used to block out all of the extra stuff that doesnt need to be in the shot
you can do that with Premiere Pro
Do you have After effects?
