The "original" fleece was discontinued several years ago because the material used to make it was discontinued. Georgia Stage worked with the textile mill to develop the "new fleece" which it has been selling for a few years now.

The fleece has always been sold in several different weights and generally speaking the heavier the weight, the thicker the pile (and the easier it is to hide seams). I am still working from a large bolt of the original fleece I purchased years ago so I am not so familiar with the newer stuff, but it sounds to me like this isn't yet another new material they are selling, just a different weight.
