Fraggle Replica Questions

Hello everyone! I am 14, and have loved muppets since I was little. I puppeteer regularly, and love it. I would really like to start making replicas of the Fraggle Rock characters, but don't know anything about building puppets. What are some of the necessary things to know before I start building, what should I learn, and what materials do I need? Thanks in advance.
