Let's say that it's 1985, and Sesame Workshop wants to promote it's recent release, Sesame Street presents: Follow That Bird, with a sing-along video similar to the one that would later be made for Elmo in Grouchland. It would have sing-along lyrics for all of the songs.
Here is my script of how it would be played.
(title appears in chalk-stye writing, saying "Follow That Bird Sing-and-Play", and Big Bird reads the title.
Big Bird and the birdkateers are having a meeting in Big Bird's nest area)
Big Bird: (to audience) welcome to Sesame Street. Well, today, I am having a bird-kateer meeting. (to the birdkateers) Today, we will be visited by Miss Finch, tthe person who sent me to live with the Dodos.
Birdkateer #1: She's not going to send us all away, is she?
Big Bird: No, we're just going to show her around Sesame Street.
(Miss Finch comes into the nest area)
Miss Finch: Hello, Big. Has the meeting begun?
Big Bird: Yes, but it's okay, you're only a few seconds late. Welcome to the birdkateer meeting.
Miss Finch: These aren't birds. They're kids in bird costumes.
Big Bird: I now. They're bird-kateers.
Miss Finch: You know, Big, you sure did travel a long way to get back here. And you can't fly.
Big Bird: No, I can't fly, and I couldn't have gottne back without the help of my friends, or without the advice I had gotten by a truck driver...
(scene leads to the "Ain't No Road Too Long" clip).
Miss Finch: Automobiles are fun.
Big Bird: That's right. I like to go for a ride.
(this leads to the "Goin' For a Ride" clip)
Miss Finch: maybe you should show me around the street.
Big Bird: That's a great idea! (they leave the nest area) There are a lot of people in my neighborhood. (cut to Bruno carrying Oscar around the fix-it shop) There's a garbage man, with a grouch in his can. (Maria and Luis walk outside the fix-it shop) There's maria and Luis, who work at the fix it shop. (cut back to Big Bird and Miss Finch, as a group of honkers go past them) There's some honkers. (the honkers honk their noses) We have some monsters over there. (cut to the arbor area, where the two-headed monster is arguing with himself behind a crate). Here comes some construciton workers (Biff and Sully walk past them). And here's detective Sherlock hemlcok.
Sherlock Hemlcok; Greetings! You know, I could have solved the mystery of where Big Bird was.
Big Bird: That's right, you could have. Oh, and now here's Bob, to sing about the people in our neighborhood.
(cut to clip of the original version of "The people in Your Neighborhood")
Miss Finch: This is really an interesting street. But now I'm hungry.
Birdkateer #1: me, too.
Birdkateer #2: Let's eat.
Big Bird: Okay, let's all go to Hooper's Store. (they go to hooper's)
David: Hi, Big Bird.
Big Bird: Hello, david. I would like to have a birdseed milkshake.
Miss Finch: I would like one, too.
Birdkateer #3: I want some apple juice.
Birdkateer #2: I want grape juice.
Birdkateer #4: I would like some orange juice.
Birdkateer #1: And I would like you to make me some milk.
David: Your orders will come up shortly.
Miss Finch: I think it is important to have a good meal.
("Everybody Eats" and "Breakfast Time")
(Miss Finch is outside of Hooper's Store)
Miss Finch: Well, that was a good meal. Everyone else is still eating, but I'll just get some fresh air. (she walks to oscar's trash can area, where oscar is holding a grouch kateer meeting)
Oscar: oh, great, another big bird. Ugh!
Miss Finch: What is this?
oscar: This is my grouchkateer meeting.
Telly: Would you like to join the grohchkateers?
Miss Finch: No, thank you. I am happy as a birdkateer.
Oscar: Well, enough of your whining. It's time for the grouch anthem.
(cut to "The Grocuh Anthem" clip)
(Miss Finch, Big Bird, and The birdkateers are now at the arbor area)
Miss Finch: There seems to be all kinds of people here, but not many birds.
Big Bird: No, but some people claim to have birds on them.
Miss Finch: (puzzled) huh?
(cut to the clip "There's a Bird on Me")
Miss Finch: There's a lot of people around here. Do you always get along with everybody?
Big Bird: No, sometimes we have our differences, but we still like each other.
(Cut to the clips "Still We Like Each other" and "But I Like You")
Miss Finch: Tell me, Big, what was your least favorite experience from when you were coming home?
Big Bird: Oh, I really hated being captured by those two carnival workers, who locked me in a cage and painted me blue.
(cut to the clip "I'm So Blue")
Big Bird: Of, course there's nothing wrong with being blue. I just prefer to be yellow. many of my friends are blue.
(cut to the song "Fuzzy and Blue and Orange")
(Maria and Luis show up)
Luis: Hola.
Miss Finch: Hola? What does "Hola" mean?
Maria: "Hola" is the spanish word for "Hello".
Miss Finch: Oh, so there are people on this street who speak spanish?
Maria: Si.
Miss Finch: Interesting.
Luis: We also sing in spanish.
(cut to the clip "Hola")
Big Bird: Yes, there are many different people around here, but we should all just be ourselves and respect other people.
Miss Finch: That's a good thing to say.
Big Bird: I think I would just want to be me.
(cut to the song "If I Were")
Miss Finch: Well, I've got to go now.
Big Bird: Well, try to coem back soemday.
Miss Finch: I will.
(the credits roll)
