Since i took up the task of heading up the MC Forum Awards, i reviewed past years' awards and noticed something.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is the one category that's different than the others in that it's more a historical award compared to the rest of them that honors the last year. Lifetime Achievement Awards by their nature should only be won once by a particular person. However, looking over the history, forum founder Phillip Chapman's won it three times (during the first, third, and fourth ceremonies).
I was thinking since we really should have two more people inducted at this point, that it would be a good idea to make up for that deficiency by awarding two additional LAA's.
Now there's a few different solutions/approaches but i wanted to throw this subject and the possible solutions out to the forum at large since (a) it should be everyone's collective decision and (b) in the spirit of full disclosure, since i'm on the nominations list myself this year, i definately don't want to make any moves on this without everyone else's input/blessing since by definition i can't be regarded as an impartial party. (It should also be disclosed that another person on this year's list is the prior person who was heading up the awards and is one of four people including myself on the committee who has access to the ballot box.)
My thoughts are the possible options to rectify this is:
A - Do nothing at all. Don't correct it.
B - Hand out three Lifetime Achievement Awards this year.
C - Hand out two LAA's this year and two next year.
D - Since this wasn't noticed and brought to everyone's attention until after nominations/final voting has begun, stick with one award this year and revisit it next year.
This year's nominees are Drtooth, dwmckim, Fozzie Bear, frogboy4, and the prawncracker.
Of course, there's always the possibility that more than the agreed upon amount of awards may still end up awarded if a tie is involved.
Voting for this year's awards ends Saturday. But the discussion can go on a few days afterwards since the awards aren't until April 1st (would want to have the decision made a few days beforehand.)
