Ernie And Cookie Monster And The Apples

This was a funny one. There was a skit featuring Ernie and CM. Ernie had an easel where he wanted to count how many apples he had. Along comes CM and naturally wants an apple but can't seem to make up his mind over whether he really wants it or not. One time he refuses and says "I don't eat apples I eat cookies" toward the end of the skit, CM starts playing musical apples causing Ernie to cross out all the numbers he keeps writing along with some fast moving crazy music. Finally the music comes to an abrupt halt and CM ends the skit by asking Ernie, "You got cantaloupe"? Ernie then faints.

I remember this one! Ernie kept writing 4 on the easel to keep track of his four apples (like he really needs to keep inventory), and crossing it out and writing 3 if Cookie takes one. During the end of the scene, when Cookie can't decide whether he wants an apple or not, he actually goofs:

Cookie: "No,I don't want apple!" (Grabs one anyway)
"Yes, I do want apple!" (Puts apple back)
Meanwhile, Ernie's running out of room from crossed-out 4's and 3's.

Cookie: "You got canteloupe?"
Ernie: "BPPPPPTTTTTTT!!!!!!!"

I love that hilarious skit. It was a good switch from the typical "Cookie eats Ernie's things and makes him mad" scenario. In this one, Ernie doesn't care if he eats something, Cookie for once is unsure if he wants to eat something, and it's his indecision that drives Ernie crazy. Very well done and funny.

When Ernie initially asked Cookie Monster if he wanted the apple he was handling, he answered "Well, it would be nice"

One reason for CM not taking the apple:
"I don't want to spoil my dinner."
(I must say I wondered what kind of dinner CM had -- 3 cookie courses? -- until that PSA of him eating healthy food came along)

One reason for CM taking the apple:
"But apple nice and juicy I eat!" (or was that "red and juicy"?)
