Did any of you ever notice the times when Sesame Street would start, not with a street scene, but an insert? This happened quite a few times over the years I remember they started the show with The National Association of W lovers once, and The one with Ernie and Bert Fishing, and then an on the street insert about Snuffy and his excersize tape. I always thought it was a little weird when they did this. But are there any times you rememeber an insert coming on right after the Opening Theme??? :stick_out_tongue: :stick_out_tongue:

I recall that most of them did start with a street scene, then they'd play the theme music as the show started. The only exception that I can think of was the episode where Susan and Gordon adopted Miles. That one started with a segment with a baby eating a chocolate cookie and getting it all over his face and Cookie Monster has a voice-over where he's talking to the baby. Then after that, they started with the street story. That's actually the only one I can recall.

Daffyfan, I remember the one with the baby eating the cookie and Cookie Monster doing the voiceover! I never got that as a child....I'd like to find transcripts of some of the inserts/sketches, so do you know where I could find them?

Yes, for some reason, every once in a while, they would start with an insert. It definitely happened more than once. One of the New Mexico episodes started that way.

That's funny because in one of the Montana shows from the 1991-1992 Season it starts out with an insert of Herry Monster singing Good Morning Morning to you.

interesting you mention this. while i remember those shows witch go back to 1975 or 1976 and i swear they were repeated a few years later. i don't recall ever seeing anything at the beginning of any SS shows in the 70s and 80s in spite the fact i'm aware of opening animations used durring the 1st and 2nd seasons. most were edited out when Noggin aired them. i wonder if some TPBS station edited out? now today many shows that are nationally distributed have the station that produces it being identified though originally you would see this at the beginning of the shows. however i think most kids shows were exempt. it was only the original Zoom series witch i saw the WGBH logo at the beginning of the series. but what's so interesting was in the 80s WTTW for some reason they stopped showing the station identifications on shows. so if SS had many of opening sequences, then maybe some stations negleted to show them.

I think I remember once that an episode first started with Gilburt and Sullivan singing "In the Library" or something like that.

You're right; show #2342.

There was one from the mid-90s that began with the "Yip Yip Family" song. The cast just liked singing it. (The family even made a cameo in one scene.)

Well, the only site I know of where you can find that stuff is at the Lyrics Archive and I don't think they have that particular sketch there. If I find anything else on that, I'll let you know.

Does this count?

I remember one episode that opened with the camera moving forward down the street in the dead of night. After only a few seconds, we heard a faded yelling/arguing noise coming from the 1-2-3 building and we quickly faded into Bert and Ernie's bedroom. If I remember correctly, this was the blackout scene where Ernie calls an angered Oscar on the phone and blames it on Bert. I think this whole episode was a night time power outage, where at towards the end Oscar wired a generator to the 1-2-3 door to power his reading lamp; the light only went on when he knocked on the door and someone was woken to answer it. At the end credits, one of the adults attached some weights (rocks?) to the generator and the Count counted every time the light went on.
