There was a sketch from the early to mid 70's I remember seeing several times back then that had about 5 or 6 adults from Sesame Street. I'm pretty sure it was Maria who played a surgeon. Luis was one of her assistants. Not sure who the other assistants were, but most likely were Bob, David, etc.
Maria is about to perform an operation. The camera doesn't show the person on the table until the end. After giving some instructions she asks, "Is that clear?" The others in unison reply, "Yes doctor." They are all wearing surgical masks and gloves. One by one she asks for various equipment and they hand it to her. But instead of medical equipment she asks for tools like pliers and a wrench. When she is finished she declares, "The operation is a success. She's fine." The others are happy and say, "Oh do you mean..." Maria says, "Yes." And they all excitedly say, "Oh boy!" Then we see that the "she" that was operated on was not a person but a vehicle. And they all hop on and enjoy being able to ride "her" again.
I can't recall what specific kind of vehicle it was. For some reason, a motorcycle is what comes to mind. But that does not seem possible since about 5 or 6 people hopped on! Perhaps it was a car with the top down. In any case, it was yet another clever and well done SS sketch.

Yep...I remember it. It was a motorcycle.I think they fit everyone on it but don't quote me on it.

yupe everyone got on. i even recall them reusing the segment into the 80s even though older human segments were rare.

I definitely remember Maria being the surgeon, and Bob was definitely one of her assistants, and the tools she asked for were a wrench, pliers, electric drill, and screwdriver, in that order. And all four of them did manage to squeeze onto the motorcycle at the end (with some of the bigger Harley choppers at the time it was possible). And they started her up and off they went

And four people is a little more feasible than the five or six people I had estimated were in this segment.

Oh and also I remember for certainty that Luis was one of the assistants. So with Maria, Bob, and Luis that leaves one more person. And that person has to be a woman because I recall a woman's voice saying, "Oh boy!". But I don't think the woman was Susan. Wonder if it was someone who wasn't from the regular SS cast.
