A long time ago, one of my friends let me borrow a few CDs of songs that he had downloaded. One featured Cheech and Chong songs and comedy routines. There was one Sesame Street parody listed as being performed by Cheech and Chong, but now that I think of it, I think that whatever downloading site he got that from just mislabled something as being by Cheech and Chong (many downloading sites mislable parodies as being by "Weird Al" Yankovic just because they are parodies).
At the beginning of the audio sketch, some kids are singing "Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesamea Street" (no, I didn't mispell "Sesamea"... Well, maybe I did, but that's how it sounded on the recording that I heard). Big Bird and Kermit appear together as Kermit asks Big Bird to announce todays letter. Big Bird says that todays letter is "joint". When Kermit tells Big Bird that "joint" is a word, not a letter, Big Bird says that todays letter is 3 (which is the number of joints that he has smoked today). Eventually, Elmo makes an apeparance and tells them something, I forget what (I think he was trying to stp the shows nonsense).
I've seen this listed as a Cheech and Chong sketch, but I don't think they performed it. For one thing, Cheech and Chong have very distinct voices, and the impersonations fo Big Bird and Kermit sounded realy good (even if the impression of Kermit sounded more like Baby Kermit, but it seems like most people who impersonate Kermit's voice either have him sound like Baby Kermit or have him sound retarded). Also, Cheech and Chong split up sometime in the mid-to-late 1980s, which is when Elmo was starting to be a main character, and even then, he was't as popular as he is now until around 1996. I don't know if they would have been watching Sesame Street back in 1985 (maybe if they had children who watched Sesame Street), but if they weren't I doubt that they would have known about Elmo at that point (Elmo may have been popular, but probably not popular enough to be on the news).
So does anybody know who performed this Sesame Street parody?
