I always referred to them as the 'no-names' because They were never mentioned. I'll describe a few, and you can tell me if you recall which one rings a bell:

The first one was a huge blue hairy guy, squarish head witha beek like mouth. He was sort of before cookie monster (starred in Kermit's lecture of the letter 'B')
This particular muppet scared me as a kid! I'll be quite honest.

The second was a huge green monster, deep voice, looked like a mound of moss with a horse like mouth. (He was in Ernie's little rock hunting sketch)

And one more was that hippie muppet, you know, with the long beard, bandana and sequin vest (I think) I have to assume he was on the '69 to early '70s episodes of course.

If I can think of more I 'll post them.

Thanks!

That big blue guy is named Beautiful Day Monster, named so because he appeared in an Ed Sullivan sketch where he ruined a little girl's beautiful day. On the Street he's also been named "Splurge" and "Harold", though Beautiful Day Monster is his official name.

The "green horse" also appeared on Ed Sullivan as a Monster Father; a dragon-like creature that could blow smoke out of his nose. He appeared on Sesame Street a few times during the first season, notably in a sketch where he appeared in a box and was named "Fred".

The third guy you described is "Big Jeffy", one of the members of "Little Jerry and the Monotones", though he appeared by himself occasionally. He was voiced and named after Jeff Moss, one of Sesame Street's major writers.

Lol!

Okay! Thanks for that info. Pretty interesting (and too original) to name the green guy just 'Fred' though. LOL! I do remember that skit now that you brought it up. I had forgotten about it it's been so long!
