I know Northern Calloway was dismissed from the show in 1989 but what I'm wondering is if skits featuring him were ever used as insert material after his departure. From what I can tell, it seems like the only time old clips of him have been shown are in specials like the Street we Live On and the 50th Anniversary.

Yeah, I recall the cartoon with Northern and Sonia providing the voices (a boy and a girl showing emotions, Spanish and English), plus "I'm Pretty" and "Who You Lookin' at, Tiger" showing a bit

So I did find that episode 2694 (aired March 1, 1990) from season 21 actually featured 2 different inserts which featured David's voice. How confusing must that have been for viewers who recognized his voice and thought he might be returning to the show, even though he had sadly passed two months before.

Northern Calloway died a year after he left Sesame Street.

To be fair it is a case of “these segments already existed and aired during his time, so I’m sure kids have probably seen these previously anyway” unless it were a case of individual viewers hadn’t seen the segments before possibly seeing that episode.

In the end though it was still common for live action film segments and cartoons with his voice to air, the show just made sure not to physically show him. Even if it meant hastily removing small footage from a previously existing street scene and what have you.
