Back in the 70's David and Maria were thick as thieves. However, there was one incident that was an omen of things to come...

Once, David, Maria, and Luis were in a skit as circus acrobats. They were to demonstrate Up and Down.
Luis was supposed to jump down off a platform onto one end of a seesaw. Maria was on the other end of the seesaw, and was supposed to fly up in the air and land in a chair on David's shoulders. (With me so far? Okee-doke!)
Luis jumps down and lands on his end of the seesaw, and breaks it in half. Technical difficulties, folks. Please stand by.
On his second attempt, Luis jumps down but lands on the floor. But he and Maria get on the seesaw and start riding up and down together.
Only problem is, there's no room for David. So with tears in his eyes, the poor chump walks off, and the couple teeter and totter to their hearts' delight.
Maybe when he had the chance, David should've gone for Olivia. The fates might have been kinder to him.

Yes indeed. Before your time perhaps, but it's as real as rain.
