I've noticed that many of the early Sesame Street specials seem to have similar opening sequences. Okay, maybe they are not the earliest (I haven't seen Julie on Sesame Street, Out to Lunch, The Grover Monster/ Jean Marsh Cartoon Special, or A Special Sesame Street Christmas), but I would say that they are close.
But Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, Big Bird in China, and Don't Eat the Pictures all have long openign credit sequences, shown over footage of the characters doing things. In the christmas special it's footage of the characters skating, with occassional scenes where the Muppets do more significant things while skating. In Don't Eat the Pictures, it's footage of the cast looking at art in the museum. And in the china special, it's footage of Big Bird roler skating in china town, joined by Barkley.
