Is it just me or does Cookie Monster seem to have changed over the years. It seems like during the first 2 seasons he was more quiet, now he seems to be more outgoing. Is it just me??

Obviously...

A) The writers decided to do more for the character...

and

B) Frank Oz wanted to do more to the character!

I might as well let the monster out of the box: I've been writing a fan-fiction interview with Cookie himself about this subject. It's surprisingly good.

When was the first time Cookie Monster was actually called Cookie monster, instead of just monster? Anyone know?

The first time was the premiere of the second season.

I think it was either season 2 or 3.

Cookie also went through a physical transformation after the first two seasons. The original look was in Boober Gorg's icon (see above  )

There may have been more than one version of the puppet used during those years, but basically he had the design of the slender head. His face was more flexible as well, better enabling him to physically show anger, disappointment, etc.

I think someone wrote on this board years ago that in the third season they used parts of an old basketball to make the mouth for the Cookie Monster head we all know today - making him look closer to say Mushmellon.

Yes, the old one was more of a blue-green color too, while the newer version was dark blue. I'm kind of torn as to which one I prefer, but you make a good point about the older one being able to show a wider range of emotions. I wonder why the Muppets have gotten so many make-overs throughout the years.
