Celtx - Free scriptwriting program

Hey all,

Found out about this via the commandN video podcast. It's a free scriptwriting app, and it seems pretty slick. It seems to be built around projects, each of which can hold multiple scripts, character and actor notes, as well as what looks like prop and location lists. Looks like it's meant to be a complete production studio.

Has anyone else tried this? There are supposedly online collaboration tools for multiple project members, but I haven't yet had a chance to check it out.

I've tried it. I love the concept of it, but I really love using Final Draft.

Another nice, free (well, donations are encouraged) screenwriting program is Rough Draft.

I use Sophocles, but one thing that I like about Celtx is the idea of having multiple scripts in a single project. As I am writing more than one script about the same characters/settings (something that also happened when I wrote comics), it irked me that I couldn't save the character/place names for the auto-completion. I don't know if Celtx will let me do this -- I haven't gotten that far into it -- but the feature-set made me think that maybe it would.

Also, aside from free, it's actually built on the Mozilla browser engine, which is pretty neat.

I'm a Movie Magic person.

Never saw a free application that was as good as Movie Magic or Final Draft.

Try Cinepaint. Bit of a learning curve involved, but if you take the time to learn it there can be good results. Some of the professional special effect studios use it. Blender is primarily a 3D animation program, but it has a compositor too, though I haven't tried working with it.
