Bad Day

Yesterday was a really really bad day for me, and I just wanted to let it all out.

My morning was going great until I decided to run to the farmers market to pick up some veggies and bird seed. Pulling out of my driveway I saw my cat, Hunter, laying in the road. I immediatly got out of the car, desperately wishing to see his tail twitch, and ran over to him. Unfortunatly he wasn't sleeping. I just sat in the middle of the road sobbing. I've had this cat for about 6 or 7 years. My cats are like family to me, and I was soooooo upset. My dad came over and buried him for me, and I spent the rest of the day crying my eyes out over him.

Now is this normal to be so upset over a pet dying? Has anyone else completely broke down when a pet was hit, or am I being really really sensative?

It's definitely normal. I was devastated when my dog died last year and in a way still haven't completely recovered. Everybody handles the grieving process differently, but you definitely shouldn't feel bad for being really upset. I'm very sorry for your loss. I've been there. :sympathy:

Sorry to hear your sad story. Kudos to "Dad" for coming over and taking care of the situation. What an awful thing to have to deal with.

It is definately normal to be upset about the loss of a pet. Most of us do think of our pets as a member of the family, that's what they are. Your cat is with you in spirit.Always remember that.May he rest in peace.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My pets are such a big part of my life - I can understand completely how losing one could be heart-breaking. It's not abnormal at all to feel as broken as you do and please don't allow anyone to tell you differently with words of 'It's just an animal', etc.

Hunter is in a better place and I'm certain that he will find his way back to you with time in the form of another feline. As it is said, a cat is blessed with nine lives.

All the best,

Wow, thanks so much! You guys have really made me feel a whole lot better about this. It's nice to have a group of total "strangers" who can give you support like this. It's also nice to know that I'm not the only person who grieves like this over a pet. I was pretty upset, as you know, but I didn't really want to tell people why because I was afraid that they just wouldn't understand how important he was to me. You guys have truly truly made me feel sooooo much better.

Thank you.

I still love and miss all of my pets, even those who died several years ago. Pets are always supportive and loving, and are an important part of life. It would be unkind not to grieve for our furry friends.
