Arrived in Nara about 14 hours ago. It keeps trying to snow, but the weather here doesn't seem to have got the hang of the idea yet...

This might perhaps be the time to mention that I don't speak a word of Japanese!

I'm here for a business meeting; this is a monthly thing, although the location varies (LA next month, Tokyo some time later this year, I think).

LOL!!! Sorry, I didn't know. You should learn it though...It's a lot of fun!!

To translate:

Can you speak Japanese?

Do you usually live in Japan? (asking about why you were there)

Sorry to ask, but I just think Japan is such an interesting and beautiful country...Last year I went to Japan and I really enjoyed it. I went to Toyohashi and participated in the eco-car race. I must admit, it was kind of ridiculous...-_-;;This year summer break I'm going to attend Temple University and take summer classes.

Hey Zondra, have you seen this site ~ http://www.japanesestreets.com ?

I haven't had much time to poke around it, but it looks like there is lots of stuff there all about Japanese street culture, fashion, etc.

I've performed there on tour a few times and lived there briefly. I've travelled around most of the country. My best friend and his wife live in Yokohoma. I am supposed to be doing a show late in the summer in Japan but I'm not sure if it's coming together yet.

Ohh, I hope you're having fun in Japan! I used to live there and now I miss it like crazy! It's an awesome place.

Did you enjoy the many, many deer that wander around Nara? They're really hilarious, but some can be kind of vicious, and one of them once ate my map (then a local yelled at me for feeding the deer paper!). Then there was this lady at the train station who tried to teach me how to "talk" to the deer. It was quite interesting. Anyway, just thought I'd share cause whenever I hear about someone getting to go to Japan, even just on short visits, I get so homesick and nostalgic!

Eat a Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki for me.

LOL, I know, it's absolutely amazing. I had Green Tea Softkreme in Nara and the deer were eating that...lol...The crows were WAAAYYY too loud in Toyohashi though. I'm so happy to hear about others' experiences in Japan; keep 'em coming!

When I was in Toyohashi, I had to compete in an annual event called the Eco-Car Race. lol...it was absolutely ridiculous...Going about 5 miles an hour on a bike with a battery on a HUGE track in full sunlight...not what you'd call fun. I got the worst hiyake I think I've ever had...But I came in 5th! lol...

By the way, I'm addicted to okonomiyaki. I still make them at home all the time...we went to Columbus yesterday and they had ekiben and eki-style sando there...It was pure bliss! lol. I'm a sucker for a good bento. Needless to say, I spent over $60 and stocked up on Japanese snacks...it was awesome; some of that stuff I haven't had since Oosaka.
