Have any of you Disney comics fans out there ever heard of Carl Barks? He is what most have have called the "Good Duck Artist" since he is known for his drawings and stories based on Donald Duck and friends. He is also the creator of such characters as Scrooge McDuck, Gyro Gearloose, Gladstone Gander, Magica DeSpell, The Beagle Boys, Flintheart Glomgold, Glittering Goldie O' Gilt, and many more. Carl Barks has also done hundreds of oil paintings based on Donald and the citizens of Duckburgh, which have sold for thousands of dollars. I am thinking about collecting some of those paintings as well as other Barks memorabilia. I just wanted to show my new interest with everyone. Does anyone else here admire Carl's work?

FINALLY... someone who knows who that is.
Someone who was much more talented than the credit hog who's name adorns the company.

Scrooge McDuck comics are fine art. Don Rosa also does a terrific job. If it wasn't for this comic series, Ducktales wouldn't exist. It was through Ducktales I learned of these comics.

I am a big fan of cartoonish big adventure type comics. I also love One Piece and Asterix the Gaul. Very beautiful art, wonderful stories.

I can't say which my favorite Barks comics are. I need to read the ones I have again to really judge them. I love the Golden Fleecing, where they go to a long lost Grecian island still inhabited by mythical creatures.

I though Ducktales was based on the Donald Duck comic series. So he made that comic series then?

I know, Wikipedia it.

My Dad had been a long time fan of the Uncle Scrooge comics even before I have ever read them. And I'm starting to like them a lot too. And I've been getting the classic comics for him on his birthday, Christmas, and Fathers' Day.

Don Rosa is a brilliant duck artist also. I have his book, "The life and Times of Scrooge McDuck", which won the Will Eisner award in 1995. You can find it on www.amazon.com.

Don Rosa and Carl Barks. Further proof you can have much more talent than the people you work for.

Some of the ones by William VanHorn are pretty good too. he has a very distinctive loose style. Then there are European Scrooge comics made by the Gutenburgus group. They're good too, but you can't top Barks and Rosa.

There is a book that Carl Barks published in 1981 called "The Fine Art of Walt Disney's Donald Duck", which was mostly oil paintings that Carl did throughout the 70's, as well as pencil sketches and comic strips. The book originally sold at $150.00, but because only 1,875 copies were printed, the prices vary up to several thousand dollars. I hope someday to find it at a cheap price, in still yet excellent condition.

He also did various and not well remembered things for other studios too. He also did some Tom and Jerry comics.
