I recently remembered an early 1970's animated clip about a man cutting down trees. The male narrator's voice went like a rhyme accompanied with country type music- anyway, the man chopped many trees until he came across this huge tree which he couldn't cut down at all. It turned out this tree was a genie, and the genie turned the man into a tree. At the end of it all, the man understood what it meant being a tree and he got changed back with a renewed attitude. Anyone recall this particular clip?

I remember this one too, but about as clearly as you do. Yes, there was a country score in the background, and the verses told about the lumberjack who could cut down trees in record time, until he met his match.

The tree wouldn't chop, the tree wouldn't fall, and then it turned into a very scary genie, and turned the lumberjack into a tree for a year.

He had birds in his branches, bore apples, people had a picnic in his shade, and every day the sun set on him.

Then there was a blinding flash and the genie broke the spell.
And the 'jack vowed to never chop again, and you know, it's just as well.

Maybe someday this clip will show up on youtube. Keep your fingers crossed.

Here's some sound bites, as best I remember:

"He chopped all the trees down as fast as he could, just to show what he could do."

"Til just one tree was left to chop, and he said 'Boy man, I'm good'"

"But this tree was bigger than all the rest, and Max took careful aim.
That tree wouldn't chop, that tree wouldn't fall.
Max was way off his game." (sits there panting)

"Then the tree started shaking, and thunder clapped
And a cloud of smoke rose by/high.
Max found himself in the hands of a genie,
Looking in that genie's eye."

"(genie said) into Max's ear
'I'm the boss of all I see.
Now I'm turning you into a tree for a year
So you'll understand about trees'"

"...he stood there, quietly.
He grew leaves and bark, and the birds all came,
made nests...."

"Other animals came, and Max grew fruit
(something) occurred to be (??)
What a beautiful (something) living thing it is to be a tree."

"And at that moment, the thunder clapped
And the genie broke the spell.
Max decided he'd never chop again
And you know what? It's just as well."

I remember that clip (especially the last line - 'It's just as well') fairly well. It's on Episode 1451, an episode whose contents list was just recently added to Muppet Wikia.
