Did you ever notice that in the famous skit where Bert has to wait outside while Ernie prepares a surprise party for him, there was no mention of a "birthday" or any other occasion. It kind of looked like a birthday party, but all Ernie said was a "surprise party." Maybe it was just for friendship.
