Hi guys,
So I'd been on the hunt for white foam eyes (like the practice yellow golf balls, but in white) & couldn't find any, so I made my own source.
I couldn't order just a few, and since I get a lot of puppet builders asking where I get my eyes, I decided to make them available to other...
Just finished a sheep dog for a client & thought I'd have someone take pictures for me with my iphone. I had no idea I was on camera & look like I'm not having any fun. I promise I was both having fun, and not angry with the world.
Anyway, here's a link to the gigantic sheepdog I made.
My...
If you're carving from block foam (or created block foam, you'll want to first draw the profile of what you want to carve on the side & just start hacking away with a pair of scissors! I took a carving workshop from John Kennedy & that's what he had us do. His book may help (Although I'm not...
I'd recommend against posting a link to your own personal page. You can send messages to facebook pages already--this also keeps your personal life personal, and your professional life professional.
Oh, i totally thought Wolfy was a mouth puppet. He's probably big enough to become one easily :)
I haven't made too many glove puppets, but it's something I want to do more of.
aw they're cute! And your set is adorable. I take it Clovis is a glove puppet?
Good job. With each puppet you learn something new & with each puppet I make I still say, "Oh I know what I'll do differently with the next one!" You'll just keep getting better & better. :)
Hey guys,
So a puppeteer I look up to had "the talk" with me when he was in town weekend before last & I came to the realization that I needed a website.
So I have one! Yay! It launched today & I'm super excited & proud & whathaveyou. I'll keep my etsy shop open, because Etsy has been...
Naomi Guss wrote an excellent little write-up with the help of Andrew Young about the different types of foam used to build puppets. That should help a little, if you haven't discovered it on your own already...
Thanks Lola! Sometimes I use a heat gun (depending on the type of fabric I'm working with), but because of the sheer number of glue strings I was dealing with, instead of melting the glue back into the fabric, making the strings "disappear", they were puddling, causing it to look like droplets...
Don't go with fabric stores. See if you can find an upholstery shop in your area. They'll have a great selection with lots of options. And it's usually way cheaper at an upholstery shop than it is at JoAnn Fabrics.
Thank you very much, guys!
No plans for a spoon. This was a project for a client, so I went based on their needs. No spoon required. Which is good, because it's the size of a large serving bowl, and I really didn't want to make a spoon. ;)
oh man, you guys, you have no idea how worried I was that it wouldn't look like cereal when I was done. Thank you so much!
You can see it up close on flickr, if you right click & choose "view original size" (it gets *really* close--like, glue strings & fuzz-balls & all!)...
THANKS GUYS!!!!
Oh gosh, I did it over a period of about a week, but the cereal alone took 5+ tedious hours. I have a rotary cutter and a cutting mat, so that helped speed up the cutting process (although fleece doesn't always like to be cut with a rotary, so some scissoring was involved...
