I get that too. He also closed the comments...which is probably good. I think that, for better or worse, fans had kind of taken the thing over. It's one thing to comment on Steve's posts, but people started using it as a place to hang out. With Steve being more private and new to blogging...
Totally agree. Personally, I'd like them to just start where they left off on The Muppet Show and just relaunch the darn thing. They could easily take the best parts of the 2015 effort, like leaving the studio and apply them to the theater, Rowlf's Bar, Uncle Deadly's role as Piggy's wardrobe...
I feel like Kermit's facial contortions were more of a Steve thing than a Jim thing. Jim certainly did them, but sparingly and with purpose. Steve's Kermit was almost too much at times.
We already know that Link isn't gone because they are doing a Pigs in Space sketch for the bowl. Also, Steve only performed the character a handful of times. Same with Newsman. Saying any of the characters that weren't his, who he barely performed, are going to be hurt is kind of nonsense...
Another way to illustrate this...Jim's Kermit got angry and freaked out. A lot. Like total meltdowns. The Muppet Show. Sesame Street. He'd even brood...The Muppet Movie, Muppets Take Manhatten (The frog is stayin!).
The difference? His meltdowns were funny. Hilarious even, because the man...
I think we're both probably right, because people took sides in how they feel about the recasting in general. Some of us in the middle are probably more neutral in how we are approaching it in terms of critique. I think people saying that it needs work are likely being the most honest with...
Geez...I mean, everyone has their own opinion, but to mine is that he doesn't sound like Jim's Kermit at all. I just don't hear it. I gave my first shots at this as audio only and if I don't already know, I wouldn't have known who this character was. By the time he gets to his last line, he...
The kids are still the custodian's of their father's legacy, which is why, like Jim, they chose to sell to Disney, the long term home of their fathers characters and legacy. Disney didn't have to consult or include them in the recasting process at all, but they did out of respect. They were...
None of this is simple. I feel really terribly for Steve. But at what point does this end? I want to hear him tell us of the Muppets past, tell us what he feels about projects, etc., but I'm losing interest in watching his decent into passively demonizing an increasing number of groups and...
You know who else is throwing collaborators under the bus and creating schisms? Steve.
Everything you are saying assumes that what Steve is saying is the whole, unfiltered gospel truth. It clearly isn't. Disney and the Henson's have stopped responding. They put out their statements in...
Ah. The reverb is due to the slowdown of his voice. Having to slow it while keeping the speed was still something that you couldn't do super effectively at the time.
Man, Steve sounded terrible at first. I remember sobbing after he spoke the first time. I watched that special in the...
I totally agree. Matt is a great and versatile team player and a very natural and charismatic performer and leader, which makes him great for Kermit, but he also has a large stable of characters already. Peter has Walter. That's it. I believe they both tried out, but Matt won based on his...
You kind of just answered your own question when you refer to it as "Steve's portrayal". Writing only takes people so far. 50 ways to leave your lover, you know? Or love your leaver as Dr. Bob would say.
This is all pretty spot on. I thought Steve's Kermit could be a bit more harsh in his...
First off, thanks for the welcome. It's a bit more of a welcome back. :) Also, I love what you say about fandoms. Spot on.
Where I disagree a bit is the more speculation. Steve and Debbie certainly seem harmonious in public appearances, but we never know what was going on in emails or behind...
I think someone else touched on this, but there has been no confirmation that this was ever going to happen. It sounds like something he had proposed or wanted, but that's kind of all we know. Something to consider, Steve has never had any creative role in the Muppets beyond being a performer...
I highly doubt it. The more likely scenario is that Steve's seemingly endless, one-sided press tour last week brought a lot of negative attention to the whole situation, as well as completely throwing Matt under the bus in his People interview. Matt, who, by the way, made the grave mistake in...
I think it's one of those things where people are just happy to see the characters and the nostalgia carries it through. They also had the characters back in the theatre as themselves again.
I've heard the same from many people. In repeat watches the Muppets 2011 doesn't hold up as well. It...
To be fair, when The Muppets 2011 film came out he said that the characters were too sweet. When the new TV show came out, he said that they had lost their purity. I get what he was saying, but still, it's a bit contradictory.
You have literally no way of knowing if anything being said are lies. You just blindly believe it because you think of Steve as a hero. I have plenty of empathy for the guy and feel bad for him to an extent, but I've found many of his blog posts to be very disingenuous and self-serving. I...
