Have you considered doing the replicas in 1/2 scale? It would save on cost and might still result in a really cool product.
Playhouse Disney will continue in California, without Bear. The show is going dark for a while this winter for revisions and will reopen. (The same changes are happening in Florida.)
Part of the DCA makeover currently includes plans to repurpose the MuppetVision building and turn in into...

Ravagefrackle - you've taken the words right out of my mouth. I fully agree with every one of your comments.
I cannot believe that Disney is doing this. For some reason, they have a very careless attitude about the Muppets. They wouldn't dream of releasing replicas of their Mickey Mouse...
Experience is not required, but those cast in Playhouse are put through a few weeks of intensive training with "Puppet Specialists" from the show, choreographers, and some amazing professional "Master Puppeteers" (who've worked on films like Team America, and various Henson projects). It's an...
The Honker puppets don't actually honk. It's added later.
However, the Honker costumes (used in Sesame Street Live) actually DO honk.
So there you go....
The rods are just wood dowels, painted black. A groove is drilled about 3/4 of the way down the dowel (using a milling machine, or something similar) - at the end of the groove, a hole is drilled through the rod, and a slot (about an inch long) is drilled back up the dowel on the opposite side...
I remember using Copydex while working at a costume/puppet shop in the USA, although I can't for the life of me recall what sort of project I used it for.
Anyhow, it is available in the US - but it may require some searching to locate a source....
I don't quite know what to make of the show. My first reaction was negative - it made me think of Bjork, actually. Then I watched it a second time, and it grew on me just a bit. I'm not really a fan of it, but it'll be interesting to see if the show finds an audience.
I really disliked the...
Yup. I recently used large plastic Easter eggs for eyes - using the rounded half of each egg. I hadn't used easter eggs in the past because they didn't sand well, and without sanding the paint would chip.
So far, the new Krylon paint has worked just fine. It does leave an odd texture/finish...
For ping pong balls, try using a small curved scissor. (The same type of scissor that is often used for trimming fleece.) Using the end of the scissor, puncture a small hole in the ball near the seam, then slip the scissor inside the hole to begin cutting using the seam as your guide. Once the...
I work with the characters. Trust me. The television Bear has many shades of color in his fur. The tour Bear does not. It doesn't have anything to do with the cameras or lighting.
VEE's touring Bears were all built by Henson. Over the years, VEE has rebuilt parts and replaced the fur, but the design and structure is still Henson.
I actually think the television Bear is much nicer than the touring versions. The TV Bear has many shades in his fur, while the tour version...
Henson no longer has anything to do with the SSL costumes. VEE now works with Sesame Workshop's art department for character consultation. SW now calls all the shots.
