I was just watching the episode about Rositas' grandma, and I just realized that Sesame Street isn't as diverse as it used to be.
Things are pretty much the same on the Street as when I was a little girl; they haven't removed any characters - but this is what I mean: between the 70s and now...
I know that we have two Big Bird performers now: Carrol Spinney and Matt Vogel, but has anybody else noticed that the JTE puppet looks slightly different? I can't quite get my finger on it, but there's something about the eyes that seems different...Anybody?
Did anybody catch this? (sorry if I'm repeating an old thread)
Thought it was interesting to see Kermit (Steve Whitmire) comment on Kermit in the Muppet Movie as though they were the same person (not that it should have been done differently.)
Which bilingual songs (English/Spanish - or English/??) do you remember best?
My favorites are:
Baa Baa Bamba
Sing/Canta
Tu Me Gusta
PS - does anybody have Baa Baa Bamba on mp3? I'd love to burn a collection of these but only can burn from CDs, not videos.
One thing I remember with fondness about SS was the number of cultural icons that made cameos.
Of course, the definition of cultural icon as opposed to pop icon is a little up for grabs - but generally pop icons aren't known well after 5 or 10 years. I also liked that the people they chose...
Just rented Zoe's Dance Moves for my son, and was kind of amazed and dissapointed at the same time. I can't imagine that any two or three year old would be physically able to copy the dance on the show, no matter how many times they watched it.
My son is three, and despite my rabid fandom...
Has anybody noticed that the quality of new songs within Sesame Street episodes has declined? This season, the only ones really worth noting were in the "Cookie Hood" episode; and weren't particularly singable.
What's up with that? The Sesame Street website says it doesn't accept song...
He mentioned this at the Naperville book signing
It tapes on the 15th, but will apparently air on 5/16

Has anybody noticed that Sesame Street tends to give muppets names that have almost dropped off the map because they're so old-fashioned? I mean - think about it; it certainly can't be coincidence:
Grover - Grover Cleveland
Elmo - St. Elmo's Fire
Ernie - Ernie Ashworth (yes, these were...
I got an email about this, thought I'd pass it on:
http://www.anheuser-busch.com/news/OperationSalute.htm
Anheuser-Busch today announced it will give free single-day admission to its SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Sesame Place parks to active duty military, active reservists, U.S. Coast...
In another thread, a member posted that both Between the Lions and Bear In The Big Blue House have been cancelled. I know other shows using puppets have been troubled (Crank Yankers almost didn't get another season)
Puppetry was really gaining a foothold in the public eye; I've been glad...
Here's what I just recieved from the Sesame Street newsletter:
***SESAME STREET BEAT
The new Sesame Street season begins next week! On Monday, it’s Karaoke night at Hooper’s and everyone is getting ready to sing! As usual, Telly is very nervous, but his pal Baby Bear is right there by...
Just wondering if any other puppeteers (or puppet groupies) had the same reactions I did to these movies.
At the insistence of many of my friends, I rented "Being John Malkovich," which everybody referred me to for two reasons: I once was a puppeteer, and many of my friends work for...
Just thought it was fun that, as I'm sitting here, my two-year-old son is in the bathtub singing "Rubber Ducky" (Rah ducky, you de wan...bathtem fun...rah ducky aflond ofU!)
Today at the doctor's he sang the ABC song to help a little girl stop crying.
Think he might be overexposed?
This one came up between my husband and I: growing up, doing dishes, we always sang "Mah na mah na, PAH - TEE PAHTEEPEE!" so I tried it one night - my husband looked at me like I'd sprouted a new head, and corrected "Do doo dedoodoo!"
When we borrowed A Sesame Street Celebration, I gloated...
No, really - I'm looking for the Ernie and Bert version that's been playing on SS this season. A friend of mine has it on a freebie tape she got from somewhere, but I can't seem to find THAT version anywhere; there are several other versions that prominently feature Bob, but which don't have...
I've been renting the Time-Life series from our local library until I stop wafflilng about whether to get DVD or VHS, and haven't seen them all yet.
The episode I most hope to see is the one where Statler and Waldorf take over the theatre. The opening number goes "Get Ten Terrific Girls, buy...
I've heard how many of you dislike the following: Elmo's World, Monster Clubhouse, Journey to Ernie, etc. but not a lot of specifics on what to do to improve them; it occurred to me that we could probably offer better information about what works and doesn't. So, pick your biggest pet peeve...
