Long ago, I found a remnant of a wonderful fabric: red on one side, with a looser-weave grey on the back. It was fairly thick, and the layers gave it heft, yet it was still flexible (Solid mouthplates remind me too much of wordbiting puppeteers) I used it for mouths until I ran out...and I've...
My stand-up puppet booth was constructed of 1 1/4" (or was it 1 1/2"?) PVC with fabric panels. It was 30" wide, and 18" deep. A curtain/scrim was 6" behind the front panel, and the fabric went over the top to the back, with a heavier cloth down to knee-height in the back. Having the panel in...
Felt is ok for parts that will not have stress or movement. A mouth of felt will wear out quickly. Of course, any fabric will show age and wear if used a lot; that's why I rebuild my puppets every few years.

Phil,
I saw parts of one episode, once. It looked interesting, but I live in the land beyond cable, and I won't get a dish because Caltrans is planning to run a widening of the highway through my dining room.

One reason is that they jump on the CGI bandwagon, thinking that it's more realistic. Also, they usually blow all the money for sequels on actors who want a bigger slice of the pie. In addition, HA makes it look so easy, the producers think anybody can do that, so they'll save money by using...
29 years of performing, had a children's show on TV in Bakersfield CA in the 70s, work in the libraries now (going for my Master's), and I do hand/rod and shadows (I was always too clumsy for strings)
The flat-based stages are nice, but I like PVC frames with curtains for compact packing. I think there are were a few threads on the subject on the Delphi forum. You might check those, too.
