Actually, for me, I was first introduced to many of the guest stars when he or she appeared on TMS. I first heard of celebs such as Beverly Sills, Edgar Bergen, Paul Williams, Liza Minnelli, Marisa Berenson, Twiggy, Zero Mostel, Paul Simon and many others through their appearances on the show...
Sad news indeed. I'm a fan of the Kingston Trio, and think "Daydream Believer" is one of the best pop songs ever recorded. By the time this song was recorded, the Monkees had taken control of their music, and as a result, all four play on the song.
Walter Murch also edited the sound in American Graffiti, one of the first American films to utilize an existing soundtrack of pop songs, something that is taken for granted today. The wall-to-wall songs in Graffiti are almost a character themselves.
