Well, the store's suffered some pretty heavy damage from a fire in one episode, so it makes sense that the owner would try to protect it from other serious dangers--whether or not those particular dangers actually appear on the show.

Snuffy did have a mournful voice back in his early years on the show; his "Oh dear..." catchphrase also made him seem worried and depressed.

Considering that no character on Sesame Street seems to worry about money, I'd speculate that there's a cadre of Muppetized letters and numbers financing almost everything in the neighborhood. ("Brought to you today by..." and all that... :zany:) They occasionally appear as street-scene...

Exactly. That gag might have been funny when the holidays rolled around in Season 30, but by now it's become just plain annoying. They made one exception when Elmo talked about farms (using the "Old McDonald" tune instead), so why can't they use another familiar kids' tune when one exists to...

The "topic song" that Elmo sings to the tune of "Jingle Bells", at the end of every EW installment. (I've parodied the lyrics as "Same old word, same old word, same old same old word..." or "Topic here, topic here, insert topic here..." whenever I hear that song on TV.)

The "shiny heinie" line from Baby Bear surprised me too. Yes, he used G-rated language; and yes, it's hard to imagine a better way to describe where the firefly's glow was coming from. Still, I didn't think people normally talked about butts on Sesame Street (not here in the States, anyhow).

Amen. Mumford's been dead/retired for three seasons now, even though he's a popular character with a still-living performer. The guy even did math tricks back in the day (and at least attempted real magic, unlike Max).

Those "Snuffy sighting gone wrong" incidents may not have frightened me as a girl, but they always made me feel sorry for Big Bird. The one where Snuffy wore the striped pajamas (and got the adults confused about his appearance) still stands out in my mind; did anybody else see that as a kid?

Did anyone notice this blunder? On Friday's episode (#4164), the "1 2 3" door transition appeared before both the Number of the Day and the Letter of the Day announcements! (I wonder how many kids that confused, at least the ones who'd watched since last season?)

The only version I've seen in years is the B clip you mentioned, so I suspect that it was planned as part of a series that never got finished.

B Is for Bubble According to this article on Muppet Wiki, not only did Sesame Workshop remake the song eight years ago; they also adapted it for a street scene in a Season 30 episode. I haven't seen the street-scene version myself, but given the plot I assume that the "bubble gum" references...

*nods* The kids in the remade version act less naturally than the ones in the Season 1 version; even though some fans might only remember (and prefer) the remake, it wouldn't hurt Sesame Workshop to include both.

Acccording to a reporter in Honolulu (who e-mailed me privately about the Hawaiian episodes), Buffy Sainte-Marie signed a release form for Sesame Workshop last year: it allegedly has to do with the cast trip, so I expect a DVD set to cover those shows eventually. If only my reporter friend had...
