    Melonpool Puppet Rebuild

Still chugging along. Here's how the Sam puppet looks as of 3/21/2015. I've pretty much documented the entire build on Instagram, if anyones interested. @Melonpool https://instagram.com/p/0eLZhqnuro/

    Melonpool Puppet Rebuild

I don't know if you guys heard about this, but back in October, someone broke into our shop and stole two of the Melonpool puppets. I pretty much knew I'd never see them again, but I waited until this week to start rebuilding them. Anyway, I've been documenting the builds on Instagram, so if...

    Modifying Eden Kermit Puppet

I think the old site I had it on got so corrupted that I just let it lapse. I still have the tutorial and the pictures somewhere. I'll try to repost it this week.

    Overweight puppets

I know this is a little off the subject -- but has anyone else noticed that after you've been puppeteering for a few years, your hand doesn't seem to sweat as much? I can remember when I first started that my puppets were almost soaking wet when I was done with them. These days, I don;t have...

    My first build - kermit

I was pleasantly surprised how well this is turning out for your first puppet! Great job!

    The Grinch!

That is really great! Great fur choice as well. Did you have to boil it or distress in it in any way? It looks perfect!

Cutting faux fur hair to fit

I usually buy some cheap fabric that has the same stretch as the fabric I use -- so I use polar fleece for making patterns for antron or muslin for something that has no stretch like fur. From there, you can make all the mistakes you want on the bad fabric before transferring it over to the...

Working arms for a very large puppet

What about incorporating this into it? http://www.crestock.com/image/3280039-Toy-Robot-Hand.aspx Your own wrist would become the elbow and this extension should span about another 18 inches to the hand. Id I recall correctly, the thumb is fixed, but the other fingers are more or less...

Working arms for a very large puppet

Is there enough room inside there for you to have two PVC pipes threaded up through the arms inside the body cavity? If so, couldn't you operate the arms sort of like oars in there? Maybe cardboard mailing tubes?

Working arms for a very large puppet

Wow! That's great! Are you planning on having your real arm inside only one of the arms and then have the other one move via a piece of monfilament or something? That's the way Big Bird works. Not sure how that'd work on your build, though. Right now, how are your operating him? One of your arms...

    My online comic / puppets

Awesome! I've found that puppets are a great way to get people instantly invested in your characters. Great song, too!

    My Fozzie Replica (First Attempt)

And you can do it either way. If you look at the dance number in the El Sleezo Cafe in The Muppet Movie, it looks like Fozzie has no stuffing in his body -- they may have built different version depending on the effect they were trying to do, but I'd say he was all boning in that instance, just...

    My Fozzie Replica (First Attempt)

Six of one, half dozen of the other. I'd say that you could use whatever works best. I'd at least use 3-4 rings of boning to make a series of hoops (like in a hoop skirt) to fill out his body -- something like am 11 inch hoop at the neck, a 14 inch at the chest, 24 at the belly and 18 at the...

    Mouth plates

Use 1/8 inch aircraft plywood. You won't need much. It doesn't splinter and is light and durable. I prefer to use Sintra for the upper plate (to give it stability) and gasket rubber for the lower (to give it flexibility). Also, make sure that your fleece or other skin fabric isn't too tight. If...

    Postcard Promotions

Hi all! I'm still in the middle of promoting my Kickstarter campaign to fund my puppet movie and have a lot of postcards left over to help spread the word. Does anyone have any experience with getting these types of things into record stores/coffee shops/comic stores? I know that a lot of...

    My Fozzie Replica (First Attempt)

You can run boning both horizontally or vertically or both. It's kind of what works best. I'd say that Fozzie, being HUGE would probably need boning horizontally at his belly and neck with a few vertical pieces sewn in to give the whole thing stability. Sort of like a human ribcage.
