If this seems like something you'd like to consider, I'd suggest loooking at audacity software. It's not professional but it's free and it seems like I've seen quite a few amateaurs using it. At any rate it would give you something to play around with, without making the commitment of buying...

I remember books like those. The webcomics thing might work. Would you have like recorded dialogue and the sound effects just in the background. That could have a really cool effect.

If anyone cares I have found that hand sewing the foam is a nice way to practice with it. If it doesnt' look right you can take out the stiches and take another approach. I've found that contact cement commits you a little more.

That's why we love it here. It's just depressing reading the first few pages because it seemed like there were so many more people.
