Wookie Monster

I've always loved muppets. I watched "Sesame Street" when it first aired, saw the "The Muppet Show" premier on prime time, and sat in awe of "Dark Crystal" in the theater. I've always loved costuming, and have been an historical re-enactor and convention costumer for three decades. One day, shopping the fabric store for project fabrics, I ran across some long pile brown faux fur that I just couldn't put down. I took the two yards I could afford and, without knowing what the heck I was doing (I just couldn't stop myself), I sat down on my bedroom floor and made a replica (from memory) of Chewchilla the Wookie Monster from an obscure Star Wars parody short called "Hardware Wars" that I hadn't seen since high school...I was just driven to do it. I made a "Princess Ann Droid" costume to go with it and intended for it to be just a prop for the human character...and I soon found that I was the accessory to the muppet! I don't do voices and am shy about acting, but when I bring out The Wookie Monster, he just sort of takes on a life of his own. I'm kind of hooked on it now. I can't pass faux fur or maribou trim in the fabric store without thinking of the muppets I can make with it. Chewchilla now has a 'Chewbacca' voice. George Lucas can track me down for infringement if he likes, but he'll have to go through the muppet first. ("It's best to let the muppet win.") ;->
