I saw an amazing clip on YouTube of a puppeteer named Christopher who does routines to various songs like "YMCA". He uses a puppet/group of puppets with multiple dancers connected by rods so that all of the puppets' arms were connected to his arms and their legs were connected to his. I've...
As far as building your own fraggle-style character, I saw someone used the Project Puppet "Glorified Sock Puppet" and "alternate body" patterns to make a boober style replica. Project puppet also has a tutorial about modifying the head shapes by adding facial features that might help you make...
I've seen many threads about how to set up monitors and sound for practicing puppetry, and I was wondering about using a webcam and a gamer's chat headset as a practice setup. I've played with my webcam at home, and except for having to slow down gestures so that they don't appear as a blur, it...
Another option might be to rewrite the scene blocking so the character ducks out of sight but keeps talking. That way the story still gets told, but the puppet is not in the air so long. Granted it depends on the gag because it still has to be believable, but it might help.
I came across some clips of BBC3's "Mongrels" and it looks like an interesting show. Since I'm in the States, can any of you from across the pond or elsewhere give me any more info?
It's an "adult topics" puppet show (not for the little ones, but the jokes might go over their heads) from...
Note: Test it on an inconspicuous area first! It is possible to cause fading and other damage so test it before using any method to clean an entire puppet.
You could do that too. I was worried about concealablility and strength/durability. Even with the magnets, you don't necessarily want the parts coming off at the wrong time. Likewise, you do want to be able to remove them when you do--Bert's nose anyone? :p:(
For thicker parts (eyes, ears, noses, etc) you might be able to embed magnets in them and some in the corresponding positions on the puppet. As far as the beard and tatoo, maybe you could use double sided tape or the "felt and flannel board" technique? (Felt and flannel board: A board covered...
Check out PlaySoup's "From Sketch to Show" series. It has a section on creating patterns for your puppet and how to make it look it's best http://www.playsoup.com/store/video8.htm
The other video I would recommend is "The Foam Book" video series. It has a section on what they call the "Nip...
Rubber bands would also work. Basically the item used just needs to be elastic and stretchy. I've seen this used for several of the letter/number puppets on Sesame Street too.
