Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Yes, the MacDowell episode is hilarious. That was the point where Muppets Tonight was really finding itself and forming an identity outside of The Muppet Show with those sitcom-like plotlines. It's just too bad it got canceled shortly after.

This is why I don't like Disney's handling of the Muppets. It almost seems like they announced this show to draw attention away from the Kimmel suspension. It feels...
I don't know if anyone here has read the Richard Hunt biography that came out last year, but it was made pretty obvious in that book that Jim Henson (and Frank Oz as well) were not nearly as involved in Sesame Street matters after The Muppet Show took off and they became more well-known. They...
Definitely not. I was a big fan of the 2015 series. It was not perfect, but it had some incredible moments.
As far as this new series go, do we know if this is a one-off special or a full show?
It would be great if we could see Frank perform his Muppet Show characters again, even for just a one-off showing. However, I understand that he has largely moved on from the Muppets. Things just felt off in the '90s when he would dub in his voice and have someone else puppeteer, so it's good...
Yeah, in the last 40 years, we've had 6 different Muppet shows, and none of them made it past 22 episodes.
- Little Muppet Monsters
- The Jim Henson Hour
- Muppets Tonight
- The Muppets
- Muppets Now
- Muppets Mayhem
I did post a thread about this a few weeks ago but quickly deleted it because it felt like little more than a rumor.
I agree with some of the sentiments above. I've also had a hard time with Vogel's Kermit and am displeased with Disney's handling of the franchise. However, I'm still excited...
So after all these years, my local PBS station finally removed The Berenstain Bears from their lineup. The show stopped producing new episodes in 2003, but the station aired reruns up until August 2025.
I just finished reading Funny Boy and have a truckload of thoughts. First off, the author really put a lot of care into creating this, it was beautifully written from start to finish. I've always wondered about Richard Hunt's life, but the details were previously scarce. It clearly took years...
Wow, that's a neat find. Would've been interesting to see if this potential Fox show would have done well. "Muppets Tonight" was already raunchier than "The Muppet Show", but this one would have likely taken it up another notch to TV-14 levels.
Does anyone know where to watch the TV pilot "They're Only Human"? I was reading about it in the Richard Hunt biography and was intrigued, but there doesn't seem to be any footage online.
