I still don't get it. Especially since the commercials keep stating that the tiger is his greatest enemy. It's a bleeding tiger! It attacks prey and eats it. It's doing what it does naturally. How is that enemy material?
It's being marketed as the enemy to make it seem more dramatic when Pi trains the tiger to be on his side, which takes up most of the middle portion of the book.

Ah.

Yeah...

totally not bothering with that or the book.

Apparently, I spoke too soon, Monsters Inc's 3-D rerelease will be December 19. I thought that was supposed to be February.

I saw Rise of the Guardians over the weekend. It's really good, I don't think it dethrones Wreck it Ralph for me, but it's probably in my top 5 animated films this year.

I'll say this for it. The commercials treat the film like it's a Christmas movie, as Santa Claus is in it (and quite honestly, it's become my favorite portrayal of Santa Claus since the Knights Templar Robo-Santa from Futurama)... the film takes place (without spoiling too much) over Easter. That would be a good place to release it on DVD, though.

But seriously, I just can't say no to Butt Kicking Santas. Especially when they co0me with Butt Kicking Easter Bunnies. Clearly the best movie to feature both Santa and a Bunny, though the competition isn't really Something to be proud of

I saw that movie on Friday as well, and I quite enjoyed it. It was better than the previews made it out to be, but then previews often play to the lowest common denominator.

I won't post any details as I don't want to spoilerize it. I will say I had to grin when I saw Hades and Ralphie in the same scene, and it made me want to reread Terry Pratchett's Hogfather again.

Yeah, they do. They always do. They really overemphasized the Elf-minions when they played such a low role in the film. And so many of the scenes used in the trailers were only seen during the credits. And the Yeti played a more significant part of the film. I'm surprised, and pleasantly at that, that the film was played so straight!

However, I have to comment on the trailer for The Croods. I was very unimpressed by it. The character designs, cavemen or not, were fugly. The plot seems like nothing special. I mean for a movie that's all about not being afraid to explore new frontiers, it sticks to cliches hard. And above all, the project sounded much better when it was to be Crood Awakening, a film that was going to be an Aardman/Dreamworks joint venture and had a script written by John Cleese. Actually, I'm just not loving Dreamworks's 2013 movie outlook. Croods in March, Turbo (the thrilling story of a Snail who wants to be a NASCAR... yeah...), and the only thing remotely interesting being their version of Peabody and Sherman next November.

Tyler Perry movies are relatively cheap to make, and can exceed their budget pretty easily, so he can keep making them and turn a decent profit.
