I guess the Marvel Island of Adventure at Universal Studios will be making a move. I have no idea what to think about this other then I hope they just let the same folks run the Marvel films and books.

Wait a minute, I thought Disney already owned Marvel, didn't they?

Strange

This is a long time coming. Disney signed Stan Lee to an exclusive deal to create new super hero projects under the Disney brand, but it appears the motive was to orchestrate bringing the Marvel catalog into the fold.

What this means? Well, I have to be honest here. Sony is responsible for jacking Spider-Man 3 and Fox is responsible for doing the same to Wolverine. Disney isn't the only Big Bad when it comes to negative exploitation. Right now Sony and Fox are the culprits. Disney has exhibited better behavior since seeing the error that was Underdog. Ouch!

Paramount and Sony already hold film rights to key properties for years to come. Sony is unique. It holds the film rights for Spider-Man for a very long time. That's why they want to keep spinning out more. However, the character of Spidey will now belong to Disney. The second season of Spectacular Spider-Man has been playing exclusively on Disney's XD channel. If you haven't checked out Spectacular - do it! It's good stuff.

I just wonder what's going to happen to all the franchises. I hope they have a Marvel Studios like Pixar or Muppets Studio. There's really no other way to do it. I also hope this doesn't eclipse the Muppet plans.

It's in how you look at it. Marvel was finally doing everything right and then sold to Disney. Maybe that was the plan.

I'm... just...confused. Really. I think Marvel was in strong enough shape to stand by itself at this point. I agree about those movies, Sony pressured them to put in too many villains (Venom especially) in Spidey 3. But these were partnerships. This is a buy out. It sounds like it could go either way.

On the plus side, Disney has no excuses and no problems releasing the Saban produced Marvel cartoons from the 90's that Disney owned ever since they bought Fox Family (Curse you, Rupert Murdock). They've been releasing the X-Men series so far.... I guess that was a sign. For the longest time, Disney and Marvel had bad blood over these shows. Disney made a HUGE error in not releasing any Spider-Man DVDs when the third movie rolled around. Thankfully, they didn't have the same mistake when Wolverine came out, releasing the X-Men ones.

But what I'm worried about is future projects. Spectacular Spider-Man is pretty much on thin ice. I doubt we'd see a season 3 (Kid's WB has a large amount of blame in that). heck, Bulgaria got season 2 before us. BULGARIA! And I just hope Wolverine and the X-Men are on solid ground too (I've heard very good things about that one).

All and all, I hope they run them like a separate company. Warners doesn't really do that with DC... and we lost the 1960's Batman TV series as a result of rights. And I'm also concerned about Boom comics' Muppet and Pixar comic book lines. Will they continue, or will they be absorbed into Marvel?

Uh... so what does this mean exactly, should we expect a Spider-Man ride at Disney World or something?

I highly, highly doubt it. I wouldn't expect to see Spidey or Wolverine running around the parks in any form--Unless maybe incorporated like the Indiana Jones and Star Wars attractions at Hollywood Studios. What'll probably happen is that they'll get their own separate division. Disney also owns ESPN, but Hannah Montana isn't popping up to give her insight on the Cleaveland Browns' offensive line, and she won't become an X-Man either. (I hope...)

You know? Michael Jackson once was in talks with Stan Lee in the mid nineties about buying Marvel Comics and playing Spider man in an adaption of it. And even ask Stan if he would run it with him if he were to buy them. But this have to be the single craziest news I've heard all day!

And knowing Disney, they probably will have very little to do with Marvel, they probably simply bought them for the sake of no one else having them.
