Yep. This way, Davis himself can retire, but yet, still have clout in regards to the comics he brought to the world.

About Jim Davis and Garfield - I've heard he hasn't drawn or at least had to draw Garfield for years. I think he does indeed have other artists who draw the strip... at least from what I've heard from people at my school's Sequential Art department.

Now certainly, every classic strip has a TV series spawned from it (Peanuts, Garfield, Popeye, and so many others), so why should FBoW be excempt?
That's not necessarily true. Not EVERY classic comic strip has spawned a TV series, though it wouldn't be false to say that many classic strips have been adapted to TV in some way.

Oh, and a little bit of comic trivia, did you know that Popeye was not originally the star of his own strip? Popeye came from the comic strip, Thimble Theater which began in 1919. Popeye didn't show up until 1929, ten years later!

Yes, but even the star of Thimble Theatre, Betty Boop, had her own TV series!

If by that you mean Hagar the Horrible & The Wizard of Id, you're right. The same applies to Calvin & Hobbes. But most of the others have spawned or at least cameoed in a TV series.

It depends on what you consider "classic". There are many beloved comic strips that never turned into a TV series for some reason or another. We just don't remember them now... perhaps because they never were turned into a TV series. I also keep thinking about comics like Pogo which were not a huge success when TV specials were made based off the comic.

I suppose you would be hard pressed to find a successful newspaper comic strip that hasn't been turned into a tv show or some kind of theatrical cartoon series in the past 80 years, there are notable exceptions, such as Calvin and Hobbes, as you mentioned. Calvin and Hobbes is no less of a classic even though it had no TV series and extremely minimal promotional items to accompany it.

Yes, but even the star of Thimble Theatre, Betty Boop, had her own TV series!
I think you may be mistaken (you or me one). I think Betty Boop came later in cartoons. I thought the original Thimble Theater stared the Oyl family. I could be wrong, but I don't think Betty Boop originated in comics.

Thimble Theatre did feature the Oyls mainly. However, it included Popeye as a sea-faring mariner and Betty as a go-go dancer of sorts.

Okay. I wasn't sure. I knew Betty Boop made a cameo of sorts in one of the Fleischer Studios cartoons, but I didn't know she appeared in the comics. I guess you learn something new every day.

Did you know that Jim Henson made puppets and filmed a pilot for a TV series of The Wizard of Id? I wish I could find the article about that (and then wish we could all see the show). Does anybody have more information about this?

Also, there was a Hagar the Horrible animated TV special once, wasn't there?

I always wished for one of Calvin and Hobbes.

I am against the idea, even though I know my pov does not mean a hill of beans *lol*
I love her older style so much more than her newer one :stick_out_tongue:...I also don't like how soap operaish it got and I hope that that theme of writing will not be pushed into a rewrite of the plot that came before :frown:

Even if you are against the idea Beck, you still realize that it is her work & that she can do anything she wishes to with it, even if it upsets people, right?
