It's Mother's Day on The MuppetCast! And here to help celebrate this special day is none other than Jane Hunt, certainly the most well-known Muppet mom to listeners of the podcast. Jane was a delight to have on again this week, and we share some touching moments as we talk about motherhood (and about that crazy Richard).

There are also some awesome links to check out this week in the show notes. The "Muppet Rawk" website is incredibly cool, as is the Jeff Marx audio! Really great stuff.

You know what's great about Sesame Workshop? I mean other than the fact that they're responsible for Sesame Street? These guys never stop producing new material (and thanks to Koch, re-releasing old material). Just a huge amount of stuff going on at SW, and we cover it here. Read more about it at the Muppet News Flash, too!

Next week will be the 2008 MuppetCast tribute to Jim Henson. May 16 is next Friday, and is the day that Jim Henson sadly departed the planet. I'll be talking on the show with someone who knew him very well, and together we'll tell Jim's story. I'll also be reading thoughts and memories from listeners who would like to email me something to read. Please get it to me ASAP though; I plan on spending a lot of the week putting this together and I'd hate to get your email too late to include it. Thanks.

Questions/Comments can be emailed to me@muppetcast.com, or called in to the voice mail line at 614-364-4270. Or just type it here on the forums!

Happy Mother's Day; have a good one!

Hi... This was a good episode.

Thoughts.
1 If you have the video of the Mother's Day MT episode, who was that at the end talking to Mama Fiama? Sounded like Brian.
2 You do know there are 2, 2 books chronicling SST's vonderful 40 years coming out later this year? Check da News Flash.
3 The interview with Jane was priceless...
4 Sara! Her message rully moved me, to think, we've known her since... Since she started the RHLC and her set of Sadie's Stories. From here on out, you'll have to do something pretty big to convince me otherwise that Jane should voice at least (or maybe perform) Sadie Grosse, Scooter's fictional mom.
5 Shoulda asked about her involvement in TMTM. At least my question about how Amanda's doing got answered. Looks like there'll be a Baby Janice in the family.
:flirt: Like, fer sure.
6 Muppet Mothers' Club? Are we talking about a club formed by mothers of Muppeteers? Or is this more of a gathering for Muppet characters' moms?
7 The montage... You rully killed me with Kermit's Mom's appearance (who we've taken to naming Jane in the fanfic world, either for Jane Henson or Jane Hunt, you decide, and there's no wrong answer)... And then, you go and play Our World/Brothers from Emmet Otter.

Thank you Steve. Have a great Mother's Day.
BTW: Are you only taking emails for the tribute show?
Oh, and 1 more post to go!

Hey Count.

1. It was Brian, playing the character Sal, Johnny's sidekick.
2. I know. The story was posted a few hours after I had already wrapped up this show. I'll be in the news in the future. But it's a good thing it was posted; there's just so much Muppet news these days I can't keep up!
3. I agree, Jane is a true treasure.
4. I was equally moved by Sara's message. She called that in to the voice mail over a month ago, in anticipation for Jane's next appearance. I'm glad that Jane finally got to hear it and respond to it.
5. I was going to, it just slipped my mind. Don't worry; this isn't the last time Jane will be on the show.
6. I was referring to a kind of social or online gathering of mothers of the Muppet performers. I just think it'd be great if they all knew each other and got together and gossiped about their kids!
7. That's my job.

I'm accepting emails on every topic and subject, as always. I just meant, if anyone is going to send something that they'd like to be part of the tribute show, to send it soon. Good thoughts and comments as always, Count!

That's OK. Was asking if you were taking emails only versus voicemail messages, but what I have would be better typed out and sent after I finish up the work for one of my classes—it's a course on duely registering a piece of land/real-estate property and additional errands, don't think the professor's caught on cause I've done it in Spanish, but I've been using Muppet characters and references from the start.

And hey... Congrats on 500, you're halfway home buddy. Wait till you get another 500, that's when the fun rully starts around here.

I have to agree David, Sara's voicemail to Jane was a wonderful contribution. Sara, if you're reading this, PM me if you would.

And to clarify from above, both emails and voicemails are welcome for the tribute

I couldn't think of any questions for Jane Hunt. After all, while she is the mother of Richard, and obviously knew him well, I don't know how well she would have known any behind-the-scenes info on his work. He may have told her a lot of stories about what he'd done at work, but I don't know whether she would have visited the sets and filming locations when Richard was working (obviously she appeared on-camera in The Mupets Take Manhattan, but Richard didn't perform in that scene... But maybe he was behind the camera watching the filming process).

But then, during the interview, I thought of a question that I should have posted for her: Who is her favorite Muppet performed by Richard, and who is her favorite who wasn't performed by Richard?

But it's too late now.

It's great that Jason Segal wants the new movie to include a particular scene that has as many characters as possible. I wonder if it will be more like the screening room scenes from The Muppet Movie, where the scene takes a few minutes, or if it will be more like the ending, where a lot of characters are just in one really big take. But I noticed that you said it will have everyone "from Miss Piggy to the Grouch". I don't knwo if Segal was quoted with mentioning "the grouch" or if you assuemd that, but I think it will jsut be Disney-owned Muppet characters. But it would be great if Disney were willing to get the rights to use some Sesame Street characters, and if Sesame Workshop were willing to license their characters for the scene.

That's what I thought too, m_m. I think a Muppet movie that hearkens back to movies of old would almost have to include some Sesame characters. That's what the movieblog article said, and as we all know, MTV certainly wouldn't embellish or fail to check facts, hehe.
