Hi!

I'm new here on the forum and also new with puppetry. I've just finished making my very first puppet. I've used the round head puppet pattern I found on puppetbuiling.com. For the other parts, I just used my own imagination.
I'd really like to know what you think about my puppet and of course I'd like to hear some ideas and tips for my next puppet!

Thank you!

Hey zaza
That's a really great puppet, for it being your first. It kind've looks like a orange lizard or a frog. Kind've like those poisonous amphibians that live in the rainforest.

Thank you! Yes, it has got a lot from a frog, that's true. I do have to admit that I had no idea where it was going while I was making it..

Of the first puppets for which I used a sewing machine, they all turned out to be frogs. Even still, its hard for me to not make a puppet look like a frog. *sigh* someday.

Really great job. My first puppets were *TERRIBLE*

"God contemplates his handiwork" and "Trailer Park Zombie from Elastic Theater" are the puppets I first made...

The puppets from Trailer Park Zombie started off as being giant severed fingers that we ended up attempting to turn into humans for our 2nd show. The guy on the right was my first attempt at a human (He's a drunk shop teacher). God was, I think maybe for the 3rd show we did and was my first time using the nip-tuck method from The Foam Book.

Seriously, your first puppet is really, really great.

Thank you!
I'm trying to find a book of some kind that has some good tips about making puppets. But they are very hard to find. So, if you've got any suggestions how to make the next look a lot less frog-like..?

I think "less frog-like" is just going to come with practice. Also in what kind of eyes you use, how you place them, the extra features on your puppet (eyes, nose, hair), etc.

I'd get Puppet Planet by John Kennedy...I'm a fan of that one for new puppet builders.
