Insurance is a wonderful scam. Besides medical insurance, here's a little taste of how life insurance works.
Companies try to sell whole life policies (as sincere as Alex Trebek looks in those Colonial Penn ads, these policies are a ripoff).
Many of these policies build "cash value" over time that you can borrow against. The interest rate the cash value builds at is so abysmally low you're better off with a savings account at the bank.
Suppose you have a $50,000 policy, and after twenty years you build up a thousand bucks in cash value. If you want any of that thousand, it's like a loan YOU HAVE TO PAY BACK! If you don't pay it back, they cancel your policy.
What a racket!
There's a different policy called term insurance, which doesn't have cash value, and is so much cheaper. But agents don't like selling it (or letting you know it exists) because they don't get as big a commission.
But it's nice to know with the money insurance companies rake in, they can buy a football stadium or two.

Why do radio stations have to play nothing but the same songs over and over again?

Because no one listens to the radio anymore. It's just for the same popular music and idiotic rant shows that people mindlessly put on for background noise when they're driving and can't afford XM Sirius crap.

When was the last time anyone here listened to the radio when it wasn't an alarm clock or in someone's car?

Seriously. I get sick of listening to Robin Thicke's "Good Girl," Rachel Platten's "Stand By You," Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" (seriously, why is that song suddenly popular again?), Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" which rips off Uncle Kracker's "Follow Me," and any song by Meghan Trainor (though, to be fair, she actually sounds almost human when doing that duet with John Legend) every single day. And don't get me started on Taylor Swift - it's like All Taylor All the Time anymore.

There are a couple of radio stations in my area where I live that do this.

Radio used to be better, if you knew where to look. College radio used to play more esoteric stuff than the usual top 40 crap, only college radio stations didn't have that strong a signal, so you won't hear it too far off campus.

One bright spot, around 1990 (ancient history for some of you, I know) WFMU, radio station for the now-defunct Upsala State College, was on the verge of national syndication, it was that good.
Sunday nights used to have a two- hour show, "Joe Frank's Work in Progress".
Two hours of short stories, speeches, poetry, even verbal ramblings.
No one-sided political harangues. No inane DJ patter. No ironclad playlist of the same ten songs. Just talking. But talking that draws you in, encourages your imagination to work, storytelling that engages your attention like any movie. It was great radio. Sorry very few of you were around to experience it.

As I've said before, I was one of my middle school's DJs in Grade 8, under the handle DJ Salvatore . . . it got me recognition, however, I wasn't that popular, mainly because my middle school was ghetto, and my taste in music . . . wasn't, lol. I tried to mix things up a bit: oldies, 80s, 90s, movie soundtracks, blues, techno, randomness, what have you; most of the kids wanted to hear rap, hip-hop, and trash, lol. We sure did hear that kind of stuff on the bus though - whereas today the one song you always hear on the radio is "Shake it Off," back then the one song you always heard on the radio included the line, "picture this, we were both butt naked, bangin' on the bathroom floor." Y'know, on the school bus.

I was a DJ in my college station (which won numerous, country-wide awards and started World College Radio Day), and we were pushing more online listeners than FM-radio ones.

For me, there were many a song I had to play that I didn't care for (for the basic music shows that run during the day, you get a list of genres and play what you want from them). But I found new stuff I really liked and got to play some of my own Muppet/comedy stuff that I hoped people liked.

I am so sick of these drive-by litter bugs throwing their trash all over the neighrborhood. Somebody literally just dumped an entire, rolled-up carpet just across the road from my house . . . who does that? Hey, jerks! We have four trashcans in front of the property, you're telling me you're that lazy to walk a few more feet and put your trash one of the cans, or lay it by the bin for the garbage trucks to pick up? Stop littering our street!
