Forum Upgrade June 20, 2015

We will be upgrading our forum software on Saturday morning June 20. This upgrade will add some new features to our forum and also fix a few existing software bugs and add some improvements.

The upgrade will take several hours to complete so we will be off-line for awhile. During this time the forum will be inaccessible but you'll receive a notice that the forum will be back on-line as soon as possible.

Please follow our Facebook, Twitter and Google+ accounts if you want to stay up-to-date with what's happening. We'll announce via social media when the forum is back on-line. You can also select to "Watch This Thread" to receive updates of new posts here.

Our forum upgrade was successful. There is still some tweaking to be done over the next few days so please be patient during the adjustment.

Post Replies

The most important part of a forum is arguably the interaction that you have with other users through messages. We are now implementing some updates that will make replying to a member's posts easier.

Normally, when you reply to an existing message, you immediately see an entire post quoted from the user you are replying to. This creates two issues: either a lot of text is in the reply box or you have to manually delete text from the message in order to shorten the quote. Now there is an easier way.

Whenever you want to reply to a message, now just highlight the text that you want to include in your reply. You'll immediately see a pop-up that says "+ Quote | Reply". Select your option and immediately only your highlighted text will be added to the quick reply box.

This update also works with our current multi-quote features across multiple pages and threads as well.

Watch Thread Management

You can now quickly disable all email notifications or stop watching all threads from your watched threads list. Modifications on a per thread base can continue to be done as usual.

Online Status Indicator

You can now see if a user is online when you view a message. This can be seen in the upper left corner of the user's avatar:

When the user is not online (or invisible), no indicator is shown. There is an option to control whether this indicator is shown on your account page:

As you can see, the user visibility option is now split into two parts. If you had the online status option enabled previously, it was equivalent to enabling both options. Now, you can set it so that users can see if you're online (such as via the active user lists or the online status indicator) but prevent users from seeing the specific page you are viewing at any given time. This can help deal with situations where people feel like they're being followed or watched around the forum.

Author Alerts for Moderator Actions

If your thread is moved or a post is deleted you should now receive an author alert via our alert system automatically. A moderator response as to why the change was implemented will also appear in the alert menu.
