I've read a few places recently that comedy is harder to pull off than drama, because apparently a bad drama is more tolerable than a bad comedy. But if that's the case then why do so few comedies get Oscar nominations each year?
I've especially read about this at TV Tropes. The "Tom Hanks Syndrome" page says that the public takes notice when an actor best known for comedy starts doing drama, and the "Lelsie Nielsen Syndrome" page says that the opposite gets less attention, and it says that the public especially notices when comedians do drama because of comedy being harder... But then why should the public pay more attention when they do drama if it's not as hard?
